Posture for Different Jobs (1) – Police Officer

1. Every job has its own risk and work hazard.  A police officer’s work is not easy.  There are many opportunities for them to get hurt while they are working.  Problems like low back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, and sciatica are very common.  To prevent this, a good posture is important.  To stand up straight, we need to remember to have our ear, shoulder, hip, knees and ankle in a straight line.

2. A lot of police officers complain about foot and leg pain.  This may be due to prolonged standing and walking during work.  If foot pain is not addressed probably, it can cause damage to the ligaments and muscles leading to bone spurs.  To prevent this, put a heel pad with heavy cushion inside your shoe to take away the shock from walking.  If you are examined with flat foot, please see a chiropractor so they can make a pair of custom made foot orthoese for your feet.

3. Lifting and carrying heavy objects may be required in the line of duty.  Know your limit and don’t lift anything more than you can bear.  Bend your knees, back straight and come close to your object.  Rise slowing with your knees, not your back!

4. Low back pain can be very severe if not treated carefully.  If you ever felt numbness in your legs, it may be possible there is an impinged nerves at the low back.  Consult your chiropractor immediately.
